China Audio Visual Collective Copyright Administration Association Founded

After 10 years of preparation, China Audio Visual Collective Copyright Administration Association founded on May 28 in Beijing.

Former head of China International Broadcasting and Vice President of China Broadcasting and Television Committee, Zhang Renhua, was nominated President of the association. The association was founded according to provisions prescribed in the PRC Collective Copyright Management Regulations, and was designed to regulate intellectual property issues relating to the right of performance, presentation, broadcasting, rental, distribution through information network, reproduction, and distribution of audio visual works. The association will carry out copyright protection measures on behalf of copyright holders and seek to solve problems such as unauthorized use of copyrighted audio visual works in Karaoke houses, radio stations, TV stations, and on the Internet.

It is said that the association will take over China Audio Visual Committee’s responsibility of collecting copyright fees from Karaoke houses. Civil, administrative, and criminal measures will be adopted to deal with unauthorized uses. According to Qu Jingming, General Director of the association, on one hand, the association will seek effective solutions of copyright problems through legal reinforcement; on the other hand, it will thrive to harmonize the relationships of the different sectors of the industrial chain by putting the copyright holder’s benefit at first. “We call for all copyright holders to contract with us, so that their rights will be better protected”, said Qu.
